Is Fat loss the same as losing Weight?
Most of us have been made to think that fat loss is the same as losing weight. Well, these two concepts though related are not the same. It is important for you to understand the difference especially if you are trying to lose abdominal fat or any other body fat for that matter. Knowing the difference will also allow you to choose the right weight loss program. As a coach and trainer, I usually advise my students who are trying to lose weight not to focus on the terms as much, but rather to understand how each term works in connection to weight loss or gain.
Weight Loss Vs Fat Loss
Fat loss is primarily concerned with losing fat while maintaining muscle or in some cases gaining muscle and is usually more challenging. Weight loss is much easier than fat loss and can be achieved through starvation, dieting, dehydration as well as excessive aerobic exercises such as distance running. All these processes can also result in muscle being burned as fat. Most trainers and coaches focus so much on manipulating calories as a way of losing weight. This approach alone may not produce any significant result. It is crucial to understand your body’s metabolism.
Fat loss is all about hormones, and the most significant of all is in the brain, neurotransmitters. These hormones in your brain are responsible for hunger, mood, cravings, energy, motivation, and focus. Mastering you braining by training it means winning the war against weight loss through fat loss.
Therefore if you want to lose abdominal fat or belly fat, you must first work on your brain. The brain is what controls the willpower. Remember, where your mind is, your body will be there as well. We are all unique and our metabolisms are unique as well. Most weight loss programs neglect this fact and instead treat everyone the same. Metabolism is influenced by the hormones in your body; that is why two people using the same program designed to lose abdominal fat may show different results.
As a word of advice, I strongly suggest that you train your mind before training your body. It is only by doing so that your desire to lose abdominal fat or any other body fat will become a reality. Your brain holds the key to your weight loss, finding this key will bring you long-term transformation. It really doesn’t matter how many times you exercise, if you can’t control your brain, it will always be a losing battle trying to lose weight.
